Teabowl, Qianlong c.1790-95, arms of Blackburn impaling Turner
Teabowl c.1790-95 with the arms of Blackburn impaling Turner, both Yorkshire families. The reverse with a blue enamelled flower with gold highlights.
An earlier service of about 1765 was also made with the same impaled arms. Research shows two possible marriages at this date: John Blackburn and Hannah Turner who married at St Leonards, Shoreditch in London in 1765; and perhaps more likely, another John Blackburn (1733-1798) who married Bethiah Turner at St. Michael’s church in New Malton, near York, in 1763. It seems quite possible that this tea service might have been for a 30th wedding anniversary for John and Bethiah.
Of this family also was Lancelot Blackburne (1658-1743). Engravings of him as Archbishop of York bear these identical arms of Blackburne.
