Teapot stand, Kangxi c.1720, with the arms of Raymond

Rare and early teapot stand in Chinese Imari palette, Kangxi c.1720, with the arms of Raymond.

Colonel Hugh Raymond was one of the central figures in the management of the East India Company and the control of the investor-owned ships. He was also one of three directors of the South Sea Company (together with Sir John Fellowes and Robert Chester) who ordered rare sweetmeat sets to accompany their dinner wares. Various services were also made for his daughter Amy, grandson Peter Burrell, and nephew Charles Raymond, who was to become the most influential of all East India ship owners.
