Tea canister & cover, Qianlong c.1755, with the arms of Emerson


Tea canister of Meissen form, 5 inches tall including cover, with the arms of Emerson of Foxton near Darlington, County Durham, granted in 1534. 

A John Emmerson was a director of the East India Company between 1734 and 1745.

Provenance: From the Weld Collection. Formerly in the Leo and Doris Hodroff Collection. 

To be illustrated in a revised edition of Chinese Armorial Porcelain (see 1974 edition p.371)
