Plate, c.1720, from a rare service with a unique style of Chinese Imari border, and the arms of Newman of Cornwall; one of three early services at this time with these arms. Possibly for the son of Mr Thomas Newman, Chief Supercargo on the Zant, a frigate sent by the company in the 1667/8 season to re-open trade with Sumatra carrying a cargo of £3,000.
