Tankard, Qianlong c.1765, with the arms of Lauder

A 4⅜ inch tankard, c.1765, with the arms of Lauder, with the badge of a baronet of Nova Scotia. From one of three services made at this date for Sir Andrew Lauder of Fountainhall, 5th Baronet (1702-69), who married his cousin Isabel, heiress of Sir William Leslie Dick; they had eighteen children.

It is possible that the porcelain was brought back by Captain John Lauder of the East Indiaman Duke of Gloucester, who was in Canton in 1768 and 1770.

The arms copy a bookplate (British Museum, Franks 17684), see image
