Dish, Yongzheng c.1733, Dutch arms of Tuineman


Dish, c.1733, with the Dutch arms of Tuineman, the fenced enclosure being a pun on the word ‘tuin’.

Made for Daniel Tuineman the Younger of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) who visited Canton in 1733 as 2nd Mate on the Dutch East Indiaman Nieuwvliet. He ordered two sets of porcelain, but was later lost at sea in 1740 as Captain of the Langewijk.

Condition : Break across one third of dish and associated rim break, all consolidated and barely noticeable. Enamels and gilding bright, presents very well
