Soup plate, c.1725, with the arms of Mertins impaling Peck.
Made for John Henry Mertins who married in 1717 Bridget, eldest daughter of William Peck of Little Samford Hall in Essex. They later lived at Valence House, Dagenham, Essex.
John Henry was the son of Sir George Mertins, a partner of a bank At the Sign of the Peacock in Cornhill in the City of London, and Lord Mayor of London in the same year of 1725.

Condition : Two short rim hairlines at 12 and 4 o’clock, each with two previously filled tiny rivet holes on the rim, visible on the reverse only. One hairline just very faintly visible on the front on close inspection. Enamels and gilding strong and original
