Plate, Qianlong c.1740, with the arms of Walter

Plate, c.1740, with the arms of Walter. Although it is not certain he bore these arms, a possible owner was Richard Walter, Admiral Ansonís chaplain on the Centurion which visited Canton in 1742, from where he returned on an East India Company ship. He was author of Ansonís Voyage round the World and later chaplain of Portsmouth Dockyards. There is a monument to him at Great Staughton, Cambridgeshire. His grandson was Admiral Sir Henry Prescott, Governor of Newfoundland.
